Edward Island Wind Atlas: Background Information
- Using the Canadian Wind Energy Atlas as input
meteorological data and integrating information
for topography and land use, the WAsP model was
used to obtain wind resource maps (30 m, 50 m,
80 m) at a resolution of 200 m for the province
of Prince Edward Island.
Wind Energy Atlas: The Atlas is based on a
set of quadrilateral meso-scale domains called
"tiles", and the juxtaposition of 65
partially overlapping tiles constitutes a representation
of Canada's wind potential. On each tile, climate
is characterized by a large set of weather conditions,
providing over 200 different possible atmospheric
states. The climatic modelling then consists in
finding a spatial solution for the wind flow in
each of those states. Results are then post-processed
with a statistical model representing the dominant
winds in order to obtain weighted average wind
World of Wind Atlases: The world map shows
countries where the wind atlas methodology had
been applied at the time of publication. National
wind atlases exist for the red countries;
WAsP has been applied for regional and local studies
in the blue countries. No information
was available for the light grey countries.
Maps of Solar Power - Average Peak Sun Hours:
The Peak Sun-Hours reflected in the global
solar power maps may differ from other sun-hour
figures available because these global maps represent
the worst case seasonal PSH (Kilowatt-hrs/m²/day)
values used for calculating year-round applications.
For solar power applications requiring performance
throughout the entire year, the lowest monthly
average Peak Sun Hours is used as the baseline
- usually the winter low average. For summer-time
only solar power applications, the figures in
the global maps would need to be considered since
summer-time averages are often 30 - 40 percent

Learning Enrichment Foundation - LEF - was
formed twenty-eight years ago in what was then
the City of York. Over the years LEF initiated

indicators, there was much to be accomplished.
LEF now is a leader in community economic development,
particularly as it relates to human capital, and
still serves the local community. However, poverty
and unemployment are not unique to the former
City of York.
